Hello from Wisconsin!

I arrived Jan 31 and settled quickly into the apartment we rented over a year ago. There is fresh snow every other day. I must have made this picture in between snow days. There is water flowing in the backyard creek some days.

We were offered a choice of backyard views: neighbors-- or nature's riparian delights. Last year's baby ducks were cute. There is a lake nearby the apartment complex.

Being city dwellers, we fell for the riverside trap. The geese are all over. Now our "pigeons" can beat up your pigeons. They hang around all winter, polluting everywhere and honking incessantly (they also dance on the roof.)

This is the building where I work next to Lake Michigan. It's foggy so you can't see the Milwaukee skyline. I'm standing in the parking lot. The decked room you see is the cafeteria. It's typical for area employers to provide lunch for all employees. The middle floor is the trading floor where I sit.

Did you know that waves change their sound as they turn to icy slush? Just before they freeze up it sounds like gravel crunching. There is something new about the lake every day. I want to know why ducks do not stick to the ice. They parade back and forth in the last stretch of water until it closes up. The forecast is for snow up to the last day of winter.

After buying a car in a hurry we started house-hunting. Here's the type of suburban house we avoided:

More pictures after we move in during April. There is quite a lot of trees on the back property line, which borders a power company right-of-way plus a jogging path. There are supposed to be deer and rabbits. No geese at all!
